As a different perspective, I'll offer this:

One of the biggest fallacies in American culture is that artists should give their talent, their time, their souls, for as close to free as the market can force.

You, and you alone, have the right to determine the true value of your talent, the "honest measure of [your] worth" (thank you, Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull, "Wind-Up").

Don't let Medium, or anyone else, force you to sell yourself short. If you believe you can succeed, you will, because you're right.

Write from the heart, and the rest will follow.
